From Passion to Press: Frances's Story

From Passion to Press: Frances's Story

We sat down with Frances Solá-Santiago, Style Writer at The New York Times Wirecutter, to speak about her journey to one of the most influential media platforms today.

Having written for titles like The Cut and The Wall Street Journal, and worked at InStyle, Frances shared how each experience shaped her perspective. “It’s about telling a different story in each place,” she explained. “My focus is always to translate a good story, no matter what it’s about.”

Looking ahead to her Little Books of Fashion, she spoke about designers she finds compelling today. “Rachel Scott,” she shared, referring to the founder of Diotima and now Creative Director of Proenza Schouler. “Her work is true to her roots and focuses on women’s artisanship in Jamaica.”

For those aspiring to follow a similar path, her advice remains clear and grounded: “Educate yourself. It’s important that when you enter a room, you know what to talk about—and to learn about others’ craft.”
