Inside the World of ELLE México with Claudia Cándano

In celebration of Merdulié's first anniversary, founder Maria Jimenez welcomed Claudia Cándano, Editor in Chief of ELLE México and Latin America and Grupo Expansión, for an intimate evening of reflection, storytelling, and conversation with our community at the Livingstone Library at Dorado Beach, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

Throughout the evening, Cándano shared the experiences that shaped her career in fashion journalism. Fromthe moment she decided to pursue the industry, she understood that success would require commitment. Yet, what many perceive as sacrifice, she has come to see differently.

"I enjoy what I do so much that it has become part of my life," she shared, emphasizing how passion transforms discipline into purpose.

In conversation with Founder Maria Jimenez, Cándano also offered a glimpse into the creative process behindELLE México's editorial universe. Building a cover story, she explained, is always a collective effort. Every member of the team contributes a different piece to the final vision, with projects often taking anywhere from three to six months to develop and execute.

She also revealed one of fashion's best-kept realities: the industry operates far ahead of the present. What audiences are discovering today is often something publications like ELLE and brands such as Merdulié have already seen, planned, and envisioned a year in advance—a testament to the foresight, creativity, and storytelling that define the world of fashion

When asked what makes a brand truly authentic, Cándano's answer was immediate: believing wholeheartedly in its vision. Remaining committed to one's identity, she shared, is what ultimately creates lasting impact and meaningful connection with a community.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the evening came when she reflected on the audience gathered to celebrate Merdulié's first year.

"It is beautiful to see that the impact ELLE México has created within its own community is something I can also see reflected here with Merdulié," said Cándano.

As Merdulié enters its second year, the conversation served as a reminder that meaningful growth is never built alone. It is shaped through vision, community, and the people who choose to believe in what is being createdlong before the rest of the world catches up.
