Across the Table with The Cut and NY Mag

We sat down with Bianca Nieves, Senior Shopping Editor of The Cut and New York Magazine, to speak about her journey through media and the role she holds today.

Based in New York for the past ten years, with six of those within media, Bianca’s work centers on recommending the best in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle—while balancing affiliate marketing, business strategy, and maintaining editorial integrity. As she explains, “My role is to recommend the best products across categories, while also thinking about business strategy and protecting the integrity of the media.” Today, everything that is published goes through her approval.

When asked how she made her way into this position, Bianca shared a path shaped by timing and persistence. “After graduating, I started with an editorial internship at Refinery29,” she explained. She later interviewed for a stylist assistant role at The New York Times, which she did not get—but that moment led to something else. “During that interview, I met who would later become the Editor-in-Chief of The Cut, though I didn’t know it at the time.”

That connection became pivotal. The editor moved on to Teen Vogue and brought Bianca on, where she spent three years. “When she was offered the Editor-in-Chief role at The Cut, she brought me with her to open the shopping section,” Bianca shared. From that point on, her role became central to everything the section produces.
